Thirty-Six per cent of deaths in Malaga are due to heart-related problems.
This was revealed by the National Institute of Statistics which shows that in 2010, 11,455 people died in total in the province.
Of these died heart and circulation problems, with 587 heart attacks, 619 heart failures and 1,026 strokes.
Another 44 died in accidental falls, 53 through accidental drowning, five from accidents with fire, 25 for accidental poisoning, and 81 in traffic accidents.
There were 144 suicides, 12 homicides and 19 deaths due to complications during surgery.
One in four people died of cancer, the second most common cause of death.
