21,000 apply for 166 jobs as Primark Alicante opens

BUDGET fashion retailer Primark has opened its first shop in Alicante City.

The 3,500 square metre store is located in the Gran Via Shopping Centre in the city.

In total 166 people were selected to work at the store, chosen from a staggering 21,000 job applications received, the company said.

The first store that opened in the Province was in the L’Aljub Shopping Centre in Elche in August 2010 creating 162 jobs.

In 2006, Primark opened its first store outside of Ireland and the UK in Madrid. Since then, the low-cost fashion chain continued its expansion and with Cordoba branch due to open on Wednesday.

Primark now has 25 stores in Spain in which more than 3,500 people are employed.
