FOUR people, aged between 22 and 32, were arrested in Malaga for allegedly extorting money from two elderly people with false gas inspections.
Relatives of the victims, aged 80 and 90, informed the National Police who launched an investigation.
The detainees allegedly chose elderly victims who were unable to defend themselves and told them that “the law” required them to allow a gas inspection to be carried out or they would be fined and the butane gas supply cut off.
They demanded €399.98 from the victims, as the Penal Code establishes that for a fraud to be a crime, it must be for more than €400.
They also took advantage of the fact that they were legally employed by a company which works with the Junta de Andalucia, although they didn’t have qualifications to install or check gas installations.
They apparently checked for gas leaks with a lighter, something a professional would never do.
