THE number of foreign doctors working in Malaga has doubled in the past decade according to the Malaga Medical Association, and by the end of 2011, there were 1,004.
There are 6,802 doctors in total in Malaga, meaning that the number of foreign doctors has risen by 105 per cent, while the number of Spanish doctors has risen by just 32 per cent.
Malaga’s foreign doctors come from 85 countries, of which 37 per cent are from EU countries while there are 129 Argentineans, 113 Moroccans, 85 Germans, 55 Colombians, 53 Cubans, 36 Venezuelans and 24 Peruvians.
Forty-one per cent of all the doctors in Malaga are women, mostly those aged between 35 and 44 (62 per cent).
