THE Mayor of Mijas, Angel Nozal, has ordered that two illegal mobile phone masts belonging to Vodafone located in La Cala de Mijas be disconnected.
The two masts are on the roof of a building in Bulevar de la Cala and had caused alarm amongst local residents, because as they were operating without a licence, the town hall did not officially know the level of the electromagnetic waves, and whether they could cause damage to their health.
Vodafone was told in July that they required licences for the masts, but the only action taken by the company was to give them the appearance of chimneys.
They will now be disabled until they have the licences and the electromagnetic waves have been tested.
However, the town hall cannot guarantee that the licences will be granted.
