Motril jewellery thief caught under table

A ROBBER who stole €18,000 worth of jewellery from a shop in Motril was found hiding under a table of a well know local bar. The 26-year-old entered the shop in the town centre and told the owner he wanted a gift for his brother. He asked to see some gold chains and the owner took out a tray with eight chains costing between €2,000 and €3,000 each. When the jewellery turned his head to speak to his wife, the man grabbed the tray and ran, while the shop owner chased him, shouting for him to be stopped. The thief, who was on parole at the time, hid under some tables of bars in Las Explanadas, where he was caught. The police arrived within minutes and recovered six of the gold chains, but two were lost. However, the jeweller considers it lucky that he was in the shop at the time, because had his father or wife been there alone, they would not have been able to chase him.
