The investigation began after the October 3 attack, when the victim was taken to hospital. He refused to tell the police what had happened.

After the attack, the alleged culprit had fled by car, but thanks to witness statements, the police discovered that he was known to the victim, and they were able to trace his car to his home in Benahavis, where he was arrested.

Police seized two luxury vehicles which had been stolen in the UK and had false registration plates. They also confiscated several weapon: a loaded gun with the serial number filed off; a magazine with 10 bullets; spray gas; a sword hidden in a walking stick; and an extendable weapon.
