New commercial centre opens at La Marina

THE latest commercial area adjacent to Finestrat’s La Marina Shopping Centre has been inaugurated.

The two megastores currently open are an electrical appliances shop and one sportswear. There is parking for 800 cars, and many jobs will be created in the new shops said Honorato Algado, the Mayor of Finestrat.

Whilst much was made of the new outlets, nothing was said about the four units which had closed down in the existing La Marina centre in the last month, nor of the fact that there are two large units within the centre, and although large in the context of current unit space, they are very small in comparison to their new neighbours.

Healthy competition is good, but it seemed apparent from the size and pricing in the two new outlets, that they will be muscling in quite vigorously on the existing smaller ones, and given the existing boarded up units on the ground floor of the shopping centre, it may not be long before more will join them.

The new shops will “complement” the existing units, said the mayor. Not all existing leaseholders might agree.
