A 40-YEAR-OLD Argentinean man was arrested in Pollença for alleged burglary and assault.
It had only been a month since he was released from prison after serving a sentence for a different crime.
He was identified through DNA testing as the alleged thief who in 2008 nearly killed a man who surprised him while he was burgling his property in Playa de Muro.
The detainee reportedly brutally beat the 52-year-old victim after repeatedly stabbing him with a kitchen knife. One of the stab wounds in the victim’s neck was about seven inches deep and just an inch from the jugular.
A neighbour who heard the victim’s cries for help shouted to the attacker that he was calling Guardia Civil.
The attacker escaped and now after three years of investigations the detainee has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and robbery.
