Valencia Region set for 12 Travelodge hotels

BRITISH low cost hotel chain Travelodge will open 12 hotels in the Valencia Region in the next 10 years.

It opened its first hotel, the ‘Travelodge Valencia Airport’, in the region in Manises Airport last week, the company said in a statement.

The new Valencia Travelodge is located at the airport – which is Spain’s eighth busiest airport and annually serves 6.5 million passengers.

The 116-room hotel represents a £10 million (€11.7m) investment in Spain’s third largest city and has created 16 new jobs. Rooms are available from €20.

In its first weekend in operation it reached 90 per cent occupancy. The firm has focused its expansion plans in Spain until 2020 and is set to invest €1 billion in the construction of hundreds of hotels, 12 of which will be in Valencia.

Torrent, El Saler, Valencia, Castellon and Alicante could see a Travelodge coming to their streets in the coming years, according to Spanish daily lasprovincia.es.

“In Spain only two per cent of hotel rooms on offer are low-cost,” said Jon Hendry-Pickup, Operations General Manager of the chain. “With 40 million tourist arrivals each year, this is a market to exploit.”
