Costa hotels want ‘adults only’

CHILD free hotels are arriving on the Costa del Sol as travel agents have to come up with new offers to attract customers. The so-called ‘adults only’ hotels have been seeing good results and now more establishments are deciding to mainly aim their offers at older clients.

The manager of the Costa del Sol Hoteliers Association (Aehcos) has said that the aim is “not to ban children from the hotels, but to organize the hotels as a place with activities to be enjoyed exclusively by adults”.

In fact, current tourism laws in Spain prevent hotels from banning children.

The manager of the Riviera Hotel in Benalmadena, Miguel Bordera, part of the MedPlaya Group which has been running as an ‘adults only’ hotel for two years, says however that “parents are advised that the hotel offers clients a place to relax in peace”.

“Ninety-five per cent of our beds are taken by two European tour operators which since 2009 wanted the Riviera to become ‘adults only’. It is marketed as such in the UK and Germany and clients who come here expect calm and cleanliness”. Since then, sales have been up by 15 per cent.

From this month, the H10 Andalucia Plaza in Puerto Banus intends to offer the same relaxing experience to its clients, especially couples, according to the Marketing Director for the chain, Alba Badillo.
