FOLLOWING accusations of overspending and budget deficits by La Nucia Town Hall, the predicted economic crisis did not materialise when accounts for the past fiscal year were published showing a surplus of €1.3 million recorded for 2010. This was a result of the council implementing a financial restructuring plan approved by the plenary in 2009.
This surplus has allowed the municipality to reduce its debt by the same amount and reducing it from a deficit of €4.6 million to €3.7 million.
“Again the apocalyptic predictions of doom from the opposition over the economic management of the Town Council have been proved wrong. And again, the facts and figures in the audit report discredits them. La Nucia has tightened its belt and adapted to the new economic situation and has made a sound management of its expenditure. In other municipalities, the opposition would praise this management, so difficult in these times of crisis, but for them (the opposition) it’s all negative never positive. And despite how much it hurt, the year 2010 is in surplus at €1.3 million” said Bernabe Cano, Mayor of La Nucia.
