Unemployed new fathers get three-month work contracts

BENAMOCARRA Town Hall could be offering a three month work contract to unemployed people who became a parent this year. It is set to be approved in the upcoming plenary session and was proposed by the Social Affairs Department. To benefit from this initiative they must be registered – empadronado – in Benamocarra, although the contract is only available to one of the parents.

The town currently has a registered population of about 3,000.

This initiative aims to “help parents of newborns in 2011 during the economic crisis and in a time when there is a high unemployment rate,” explained Mayor Abdeslam Lucena (PA).

“The Town Hall will continue to implement initiatives to encourage births,” he added.

“In the villages is very difficult not to be sensitive to the needs of the people; we know them and see them every day.”

“They come to the Town Hall to ask for help, so it is normal that we will make more of an effort to compensate for the economic crisis.”

The Town Hall will be maintaining other social services including the free podiatry service which is “a pioneer in Spain,” he added.
