PRODUCERS of The Only Way Is Essex reality show have announced some big changes to the show’s format ahead of the new series - but the biggest shock is dropping Marbella in favour of Barcelona.

The Essex crowd will be jetting to the city on March 12, 13 and 14 ahead of Series 22 that will air on ITVBe later this month, according to The Sun.

The cast hasn’t been confirmed, but veterans Gemma Collins and James ‘Arg’ Argent are expected to return - unlike seven other cast members who were culled by show bosses in a big shake-up.

And, instead of airing 50-minute instalments on Wednesdays and Sundays, TOWIE will now only broadcast one hour-long episode per week.

The show will also be returning to its fast turnaround filming schedule with production company Lime Pictures commissioned to make 21 episodes of the reality show to air throughout 2018.

Former TOWIE star Elliott Wright  now runs the successful Olivia’s restaurant at La Cala de Mijas, on the Costa del Sol so the series special move to Barcelona is likely to see less of his old pals drop by.
