POLICE have arrested a man in Spain for breaking a restraining order against the mother of an eight-year-boy who has gone missing in southern Spain.

The Spanish press has reported that the middle-aged man has repeatedly harassed Patricia Ramirez, Gabriel's mother.

But officers have not officially linked the two events and have not ruled out other lines of enquiry into the boy's disappearance.

Gabriel Cruz Ramirez was last seen on Tuesday, February 27, when he left his grandmother's house in Las Hortichuelas, a hamlet in the town of Nijar in the province of Almeria.

Despite huge searches of the area, involving more than 500 personnel, no trace of little Gabriel has yet been found.

He had gone to play at a friend's house but he never returned.

Emergency services are still searching for Gabriel using a specialist dog unit, riders on horseback and drones.

Meanwhile, an online petition calling for the involvement of the army in the search for Gabriel has already achieved almost 40,000 signatures.

The petition also calls for the checking of all motorway CCTV cameras.
