A BRITISH man has been arrested for bludgeoning his son with a hammer in Alicante province.

The 70-year-old allegedly attacked his 20-year-old son while he slept, and turned his attention to his partner when she attempted to stop him.

Neighbours called the police upon seeing the man, covered in blood, shaking his partner outside their Denia home.

Upon arriving at the scene, police wrestled the weapon from the attacker and, following a blood trail, found his son with serious head injuries.

Both the mother and son were taken to hospital for treatment. It is unclear at this stage the reasons behind the attack.
