Madonna denied jury service

Madonna showed up on Monday for jury service in New York but was let off to prevent ‘distraction’ for the court.

She had been due to appear last May but changed the date of selection.

Madonna didn’t enter the courtroom as she was allowed to sit in the clerk’s office rather than waiting in the jury waiting room. The star, 55, waited there for two hours before being told that there were enough other potential jurors on hand to cover the upcoming cases.

“The greater good here is that her appearance really goes to show that everyone gets called,” a court spokesperson said.

“The intent here was not to create a distraction to other jurors or the business of the court.”

Many other US stars have been called up for jury duty. Tom Hanks was a juror in a domestic abuse case last year. However, the trail ended early after a prosecution lawyer thanked Hanks for his efforts. This was a breach in court regulations.

Rudy Giuliani served while he was mayor of New York in 1999.

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker, TV journalist Barbara Walters and comedian Jon Stewart have all also given their time to the court.
