Hollywood actor Brad Pitt has been attacked while signing autographs at the premiere of fiancée Angelina Jolie's new film. The red carpet incident, which occurred before the screening of Maleficent, saw actor and director Pitt struck in the head by his attacker.

Security guards at the venue wrestled the assailant while an apparently unharmed Pitt resumed signing autographs outside the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.

The attacker, Ukrainian prankster Vitalii Sediuk, was handcuffed and arrested on suspicion of battery.

A fortnight ago Sediuk was detained for a similar attack on Ugly Betty star America Ferrera in Cannes.

In 2012 Sediuk was slapped by Will Smith after he tried to kiss the I Am Legend star on the lips.
