Skydive for the love of dogs!

EVERYBODY knows the name Siesta Group by now – one of the largest garden furniture retailers on the Costa Blanca.
What you probably don’t know is that business owner Sandra Hamnett is a bit of a dog fanatic and when she’s not looking after her cute, cuddly brood at home she is busy trying to help Costa Blanca Dog Homing raise valuable cash to rescue, foster and re-home abused and abandoned dogs.
The pressure is immense on the rescue centres with the number of cases of animal neglect increasing daily throughout Spain, so together with another dog lover and friend Rachel Crawford from Inspired Home and Garden in Albox, Sandra and Rachel have taken the plunge and decided to try something different – a sponsored skydive. The idea is to not only raise awareness of the problem but to also raise some funds to assist Costa Blanca Dog Homing and Rachel’s chosen charity Helping Animals Almanzora, of which she is the President. The skydive has recently had two more brave ladies join in - Sandra's niece Shona, who will be getting her sponsorship from the UK, and Amanda Willett who has three rescue dogs of her own.
All of these ‘barking mad’ ladies have decided that on August 9 in Valencia they will skydive from an aeroplane where they will freefall for approx 50 seconds at terminal velocity following which a parachute “should” open and take them safely down to earth. None of these ladies have done this before but they are so committed to their chosen charities they wanted to go that extra mile and in return are asking for people to sponsor them. The actual skydive has been paid for by the ladies so all sponsorship money goes directly to the dog charities.
Costa Blanca Dog Homing and Helping Animals Almanzora dedicate their time to help dogs in Spain by rescuing them from killing stations and saving them from the streets. They also offer aid to other rescue centres with donations and assistance in re-homing, and generally do what they can to help any dog in need.
The ladies will all have forms at hand at every available opportunity. Sponsorship forms can be found in all Siesta Group stores at Gata De Gorgos, Guardamar del Segura, Los Montesinos and San Javier, Inspired Home and Garden in Albox, HAA charity shop in Arboleas and ABC vets in La Alfoquia or money can be paid direct to the charities via PayPal at [email protected] or [email protected] – please mark up SKYDIVE.
Anyone interested in fostering a dog or giving a permanent home to one should contact the charities direct via facebook or email.
