Man bugged by moth in ear, no myth

THE old wives tale has it, that all of us, at some point in our lives unknowingly, end up eating a spider or two when we are sleeping. Some people go a bit further and don’t even have the excuse of sleeping.  Relatively healthy and youthful Rob Fielding 43, has just had surgery to remove a moth that had been buzzing inside his head for three days.

Father-of-three, Rob was reading in bed, when the moth chose his ear as a landing post. A few moments of flapping and poking ensued until Rob accidentally ended up shoving the moth into his ear canal.

After what can only be imagined as three days of hell and an equal amount of complaining about a distinct buzzing sound, his wife Joanne sent him to hospital to have his ear examined.

The insect was eventually removed during an operation lasting one and a half hours, where his ear canal was prised open and the moth pulled out with a pair of small forceps.

Sadly it was too late to call a vet and the Moth has passed on. Rob, of Aylesbury, England, however, has commemorated his creepiest three days and proudly displays the dead moth on his mantelpiece as a trophy of his battle with the insect world.

Speaking to ITV news he said: “It was awful knowing the moth was flying around inside my head and every now and then when I felt it move, it made me jump out of my skin.

“Luckily, the kids find it absolutely hilarious and are obsessed with showing everyone our new pet.” Rumours that the moth laid larvae inside Rob’s ear are said to be entirely fictitious.
