WEATHER WARNINGS: Parts of Spain put on alert as snow expected

SPANISH provinces are on alert this weekend as snow is expected to fall across the country.

Temperatures in all regions are expected to fall in the coming days; with reportedly half of Spanish provinces likely to experience snowfalls at some point.

Weather conditions are likely to be more intense in the Cantabrian area, high Ebro, western Pyrenees, northeast coast, Central System and north and west of Galicia and the Iberian System.

La Rioja, will activate the red warning (extreme risk) and could see 45 centimetres of snow accumulation in less than 24 hours.

Orange warnings for snowfall have reportedly been given to Granada, Huesca, Zaragoza, Cantabria, Ávila, Burgos, Segovia, Soria, Navarra, Álava, Vizcaya, Guipúzcoa and Asturias; while Castellón, Madrid, Lleida, Valladolid, Palencia, León, Guadalajara, Cuenca, Albacete, Teruel and Jaén have all been given yellow warnings.

Snow also has a 60 per cent probability of reaching the Madrid capital, but is unlikely to settle due to an insufficient fall in temperature.

Yellow warnings have been given to Cádiz, Málaga, Barcelona, ​​Tarragona, Navarra and Guipúzcoa; while Madrid, Melilla, a good part of the Canary Islands, Málaga, Jaén, Granada and Cádiz have also been given the yellow warning for wind.

Tomorrow (Sunday) four provinces, Cantabria, Segovia, Ávila and Asturias have received orange warnings and Huesca, Zaragoza, Albacete, Cuenca, Guadalajara, Toledo, Burgos, León, Palencia, Salamanca, Soria, Madrid, Cáceres, La Rioja, Barcelona, ​​Tarragona and Lérida are all on yellow.

Yellow warnings for wind have been given in the Canary Islands and yellow and orange warnings for strong waves on the Canary, Galician and Cantabrian coasts.
