Two Brits investigated for shining lasers into cockpits of planes landing at Costa del Sol airport

SPAIN’S National Police has interrogated a British father and son, who were staying at a hotel in Torremolinos, for several incidents of shining lasers into the cockpits of planes landing at Malaga, potentially ‘blinding’ the pilots on their approach to the busy holiday airport.

The two questioned are a 41-year-old man and his 15-year-old son, both of British nationality, who have been threatened with serious breach of the Citizen Security Act 4/2015, which carries a hefty  fine of €30,001 to €600,000.

The pilots of three inbound aircraft alerted the control tower to the danger while an off-duty police officer staying at the same hotel as the pair spotted the green beams from their balcony and alerted the emergency services to help locate and identify the alleged perpetrators.

Two green laser pointers - in the form of pens – have been seized by the police and investigations continue.
