A STORM which has lashed the coast since yesterday continues to wreak havoc along beaches between San Pedro and Las Chapas.

Yesterday, strong waves returned causing damage to recently repaired showers and footbridges, as well as swallowing up swathes of sand on San Pedro´s beaches.

Multiple restaurants have been affected, with water and sand inundating kitchens, destroying furniture and windows. Some have had to push back their seasonal reopenings in order to repair the damage. A local waiter commented that “we have suffered five storms this winter, but none like this.”

An orange weather alert was activated on Wednesday, keeping fishing fleets in the ports as force eight winds produced five metre waves. It is estimated that Marbella´s fishermen lost around €30,000 yesterday alone.

Much of the coastline has only just recovered from the devastation caused by December’s storms, with the state spending around €1.3 million to ensure beaches are ready for Semana Santa. The work will continue despite these new setbacks.

Maybe more needs to be done to sort out climate change but let's not forget the climate changes anyway.

Time for the world to put some real effort into sorting out climate change. When we all do nothing about it, then this will get worse year on year.
