A FRENCH newspaper declares Brit Lewis Hamilton as the true 2021 F1 champion, despite that title being controversially awarded to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. On the cover of their latest issue, “Grand Prix” hailed Sir Lewis as an eight-time world champion and winner of last year’s Formula One world championship. French journalist Daniel Ortelli shared the cover via a tweet on social media whilst claiming it would “make some noise”.

The Brit recently broke his silence since losing out to Verstappen in Abu Dhabi by stating: “I’ve been gone. Now I’m back!”. He had been silent on his social media platforms for nearly two months. Hamilton was denied winning an unprecedented eighth world championship in F1 in Abu Dhabi after an issue with a safety car caused the contentious situation that sparked major controversy. The vehicle came on track to deal with a Nicholas Latifi crash, and during the delay, Verstappen changed his tyres. Lapped cars were then able to clear the safety car, which left a final lap race between the Dutchman and Hamilton. Verstappen overtook Hamilton going into turn five and stayed ahead until the chequered flag, meaning Verstappen was crowned world champion after winning the season-end race. However, since then, shocking footage of Race Director Michael Masi essentially colluding with Red Bull’s Christian Horner and Jonathan Wheatley towards the end of the 2021 F1 season finale has been released. Masi made some questionable decisions following the introduction of the Safety Car. Before going into the new season, Hamilton will be keeping an eye on an FIA investigation into the Abu Dhabi race that is due to report to the governing body on February 14. The sport’s governing body will be talking to all the drivers before the report is made public on March 18.
