BREAKING: Self-isolation in England cut from seven days to five

Breaking News – The self-isolation period for fully vaccinated people in England who have Covid will be reduced from seven days to five.

The health secretary Sajid Javid has announced today that the self-isolation period for fully vaccinated people in England who have Covid will be reduced from seven days to five.
Javid announced the move in a Commons statement to MPs.
He said, citing data from the UK Health Security Agency: “Two-thirds of positive cases are no longer infectious by the end of day five.”
Currently, fully-vaccinated people who test positive for Covid can end their isolation period if they test negative on a lateral flow test on days six and seven. The test must be taken 24 hours apart.
If they still test positive after day seven then they must stay in isolation for 10 days.
This change was made just before Christmas, however, there have been calls for the government to cut the isolation period further because of continuing pressure on businesses and the NHS amid staff shortages due to the spread of the Omicron variant.
