Blue Underwater Life Park

Around 2.5 million euros provided by the European Next Generation (EU) will be used for the development of more than 20 projects in the Almuñécar- La Herradura area. The funds, which will go towards improvements in infrastructure and tourism facilities, were announced by the Mayor of Almuñécar, Trinidad Herrera.
The project entitled Blue Underwater Park, forms part of the Regional Plan for Sustainable Tourism in Destination for Andalusia and will be undertaken between 2022 and 2024. Herrera said: “the project does not entail any cost for the local institution since it is financed entirely with European funds, after being pre-selected by the Andalusian Regional Government Tourism Department, which submitted the proposed project to the Secretary of State for Tourism.”
For his part, the Deputy Mayor for Tourism and Beaches, Daniel Barbero, said: “the backbone of the project revolves around the Almuñécar La Herradura Underwater Park, a unique, innovative, diversifying, differentiating, sustainable project and the standard of the Almuñécar La Herradura Tourism Sustainability Plan.”
Continuing Barbero said: “the project generates a blue and circular economy around its natural ecosystem, complementing the existing offer of nautical activities in the municipality. At the same time, the seabed will be regenerated as will new tourism alternatives away from sun and the beach providing a comprehensive offer.”
