Popular singer Georgie Dann has died aged 81 and just days before a scheduled operation.

The popular ‘Song of the Summer’ singer Georgie Dann died today, November 3, in Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Madrid where he was reportedly due to have a hip operation in the coming days.

Born in France, the musician became an icon of the summer song during the 70s and 80s thanks to unforgettable hits such as El chiringuito, Carnaval, carnaval or La Barbacoa.

Georges Mayer Dahan (Paris, January 14, 1940), raised in a family of musicians, came to Spain in 1965 to represent his country at the Mediterranean Festival and has since settled in the peninsula.

His first great success was El cataschok (1969) thanks to its catchy refrains and its spicy lyrics.

A member of the SGAE since 2016, Dann has 303 works registered as a composer and lyricist, which includes such well-known songs as El bimbo, Macumba, El veranito, La beer, Koumbo and The African.
