Tom Hardy knocked off top spot in James Bond betting odds

Tom Hardy knocked off top spot in betting odds for next James Bond 007

Tom Hardy has been knocked off the top spot in the race to become the next actor to play the iconic movie role of James Bond 007. Hardy had been the bookies’ favourite for some months, but suddenly, out of nowhere, Game Of Thrones, and Bodyguard star, Richard Madden has overtaken him.

Scottish actor Madden shot to fame playing the role of Robb Stark in the epic series GOT, and then starred in the smash BBC drama ‘Bodyguard’. He is now quoted at 9/4 with Ladbrokes to be next to don the famous tuxedo and bow tie of the legendary British secret service spy in the Bond film franchise.

Ladbrokes spokesman, Alex Apati said, “It’s all change at the head of the Bond betting, with Richard Madden now running away with things as far as the odds are concerned”. Hardy has reportedly dropped back into second with odds of 3/1.

Idris Elba, star of Luther, was another name tipped to play the part, but now finds himself lagging in third position in the betting odds at 10/1. When asked recently, Elba denied wanting to take the role, telling The Express, “I say this in jest, but this is my answer to Bond: Luther is my big character that lives in the same space as the Bournes, as the Bonds in the world.

He added, “Not in terms of spy works or spying, but this is a character that fights evil and then will stop at nothing to do it. And we created him from scratch. Me and the showrunner Neil Cross really ploughed our hearts into making John Luther. And I’ve never been more thankful for a character that keeps going. I love him. And it’s a hard character to play. It’s very absorbing, but I’ve liked bringing him to life every time. I’ve loved it”, as reported by dailystar.co.uk.
