The number of tourist homes in Malaga has doubled in the last four years, confirming a rise in this sector.

The CEO of Costa del Sol Tourism Margarita Del Cid has confirmed that the number of tourist homes in the province of Malaga has doubled

Margarita Del Cid will announce this in her presentation at the Vitur Summit congress that will be held in Malaga on October 28 and 29, in which Turismo Costa del Sol and Sabor a Malaga collaborate.

The Vitur Summit will host more than 80 speakers and 900 attendees and is the largest event in Europe on tourist housing.

The professional and working meeting will address the key challenges and the future strategy of this important business sector and will bring together representatives and managers of official bodies, professional associations, rental platforms and management companies operating in the sector.

It will also serve as a framework for the National Federation of Tourist Accommodation and Housing Fevitur to hold its working sessions.

The province of Malaga has 43,128 tourist homes, according to the information provided as of September 2021 by the Andalucian Tourism Registry. That number has more than doubled in just four years (from 20,657 registered homes in 2017 to 49,840 in 2021.)

With regard to the places provided, they also follow a growing path, registering a growth of 60.5 per cent, exceeding 444,800 places in September 2021.

Homes for tourist purposes reached 51.2 per cent of the beds in the Province, surpassing hotel beds, which stands at 97,167 (21.8 per cent.)

The volume of homes sold in August 2021 is 20,042 homes (-26.45 per cent less than in August 2020) and more than 88,200 parking spaces (-26.63 per cent compared to the same period of the previous year.)

The CEO of Costa del Sol Tourism has said that “from the administrations and public institutions we must guarantee that the houses for tourist purposes are tourist alternatives in equal tax and competence conditions than the rest of the types of accommodation.”

This type of accommodation has a great value, according to Del Cid, “since they help to diversify tourists. They accommodate the senior tourist with high purchasing power, to the young millennial tourist who knows perfectly what they to when choosing a destination, and also provides very useful solutions for family tourism.”

“The rise of this type of accommodation has once again shown that Malaga and the Costa del Sol is the best place to live and invest and, thanks to the public-private institutional collaboration, the destination is once again at the forefront in the new tourist horizon” she concluded.
