A new lava stream has started flowing through the Tacande area of La Palma

Involcan, the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands, has published images of a new lava eruption from the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of La Palma. These stunning, yet frightening images, and video footage, were taken at 19.45 pm, and then again at 20.50pm local Canarian time, as the lava flowed through the area of Tacande. This shows that the volcano which has been active since September 19, has no intention of calming its activity for now.

A conference was being planned for Monday 18, and Tuesday 19, at the Los Llanos de Aridane School of Agrarian Training, about the management of desalinated water in the crops affected by the eruption.

This presentation is designed to train the technicians from agricultural organisations, cooperatives, irrigation communities, Cabildo staff, and Agrarian Extension Agencies. It is hoped this can help to resolve any doubts that farmers may have in relation to the appropriate methods for managing desalinated water.

Maria Gamez, the general director of the Guardia Civil is due to fly into La Palma in person today, Tuesday 19, at around 11am local time. She will visit the forward command post and observe the operation first-hand, to know the work that is being carried out by officers deployed in the area, who are in charge of coordinating security in the vicinity of the volcano.

Restrictions that had been in place on vessels navigating to the island have now been eased by the General Directorate of Merchant Marine. Until recently, vessels were prohibited from sailing within a 500-metre radius from the front of the lava wash.

From now on, scientific, observation, emergency ships, drones, and remote operation vehicles will be allowed to navigate up to 200 metres from the volcano’s strip. Other craft cannot move within a radius of 2 miles, in the section between Labombilla, and 0.2 miles south of the port of Tazacorte, as reported by 20minutos.es.
