The spectacular five-masted ‘Royal Clipper’ sailing ship docks in Malaga

A ship that until a few months ago was considered to be the world’s largest tourist sailboat has once again docked in the Port of Malaga today, Friday, October 15. The stunning five-masted Royal Clipper is on a 19-day itinerary heading from Cannes in the south of France, to the Portuguese capital, Lisbon.

On its 25th visit to Malaga, this beautiful vessel pulled into the No2 dock, after last coming to the Andalucian port back in 2019. She arrived from Motril, and will head off to the Marbella jet-set resort of Puerto Banus.

Originally named Gwarek, this ship was built and launched in Poland in 2000, before being renamed Royal Clipper in July of that year. She is a part of the Star Clippers fleet of ships, a shipping company specialising in sailing tourist ships, that today operates with three ships.

At 138 metres in length, and weighing 4,425 gross register tons, the vessel comprises four decks, three of them for passengers. Its 112 cabins have a capacity of 227 passengers. A total of 42 sails adorn its five masts, adding up to a total area of 5,202m².

Although taking the same routes used by regular cruise ships, the Royal Clipper offers the experience of siling on a wind-propelled craft, something that can be a unique alternative to the usual tourist cruises.

Until a few months ago, she was in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest sailing cruise ship in the world, but then, in May of this year, the Golden Horizon took that title, with its 162 metre length. This ship was actually docked in Malaga recently, on June 15.

For lovers of beautiful ships, Malaga is a focal point right now, with Mein Schiff 3 docked at the Levante north maritime station. The Vasco da Gama is docked at the south dock, while on the eastern dock, is the Ultramarine tourist ship, as reported by malagahoy.es.
