An earthquake measuring 3.6 magnitude shakes Murcia

An earthquake measuring a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter has shaken the province of Murcia in Spain this Friday, October 15. It occurred at around 7.41pm. According to provisional data from the National Geographic Institute (IGN), its epicentre is reported to have been in the town of Fortuna, at a depth of about 5km.

The Emergency Coordination Center of the Region of Murcia has confirmed that it received a dozen calls warning of the earthquake. This is already the fifth tremor to be recorded in this area in just three days.

Other municipalities reported feeling the tremor as well. There were calls from the towns of Molina de Segura, Archena, Abanilla, Blanca, Cabezo de Torres, Murcia, Archena, Alguazas, Ceuti, Las Torres de Cotillas, and Yecla, all saying they were shaken by the latest earthquake.

It was also experienced as far away as the bordering province of Alicante, where people in towns such as Elda, Orihuela, Elche, Redovan, Petrer, and Albatera, all reported feeling the ground shake.

According to the newspaper La Verdad, at least one neighbour in the Murcian town of Fortuna has reported damage to his home, with members of the Consortium’s Fire Department being called to attend the incident, as reported by 20minutos.es.
