Shock as man decapitated in ferry accident in Ibiza. The shocking death occurred after a passenger ferry collided with a boat.

Tragically a 46-year-old man has been decapitated at the mouth of the Ibiza port when his boat was run over by a passenger ferry. The ferry line runs between Ibiza and Formentera. The shocking accident took place on Tuesday, August 17 and was confirmed by the Guardia Civil today Wednesday.

The accident which involved the Balearia ferry, the Formentera Direct, occurred at about 11.30pm on Tuesday. The ferry runs between the two islands and tragically ran over a private boat which was carrying two people at the time. Both the people on board the boat were of Spanish nationality, according to Salvamento Maritimo.

The decapitated person died on the spot, but the second person from the boat was rescued by the Formentera Direct’s auxiliary boat. The second person received injuries during the collision but the extent of these is not known.

Both the remains of the wrecked boat and the lifeless body have been taken to the port in Ibiza. They have been placed at the disposal of the forensic doctor and the Guardia Civil.

The Guardia Civil’s Underwater Activities Group (GEAS) will be carrying out a search today, Wednesday, August 18, at the mouth of the port. They hope to recover the head of the deceased person and the rest of the boat.

As reported La Sexta, “Salvamento Maritimo received a call from 112 at around 23.30 hours about a collision between boats. A private individual who was on the wall of Dalt Vila in Ibiza alerted the emergency service that he had heard a collision and heard screams. At almost the same time, the Balearia ferry alerted that it had suffered a collision and was lowering its vessel to rescue people who might be in the water.”

The injured person was recovered around 10 minutes after the collision and sadly around 40 minutes after the collision the decapitated body was discovered.
