Sandra Sanchez wins gold for Spain at the Tokyo Olympics, with a stunning display in the kata in the karate competition.

Sanchez has lived up to her stunning reputation as the favourite and has won a historic gold medal for Spain in the kata in the karate competition. This is Spain’s second gold medal and a stunning win for the country.

Sanchez is ranked world number one and she did not disappoint at the event. Even from the qualifying round she performed excellently and showed all her potential.

During the final she beat Kiyou Shimizu from Japan, after she pulled off an amazing kata, where all her moves were perfect. She celebrated and smiled happily at both her husband and the national coach, both of whom were present at the Nippon Budokan.

Sanchez is said to be the best kata karateka in history, and her medal today will go down in history. According to 20 minutes not only has Sanchez been “number one in the rankings for the last five years, the Talaverana has won five European Championships and two World Championships.”

In other Spanish news, Spanish researchers have discovered a series of human skulls and jaws which date back over 3000 years. The discovery was made in Jaen during the third excavation campaign which has been carried out at the Cuadros River Cave. They have discovered over 500 metres of galleries in the area.

The most recent excavation campaign has now been completed and the discovery was announced by the director of the Municipal Centre for Prehistoric Research Paleomagina de Bedmar, Marco Antonio Bernal along with the physical anthropologist Jose Maria Hidalgo Molina. Bernal is also the excavation director for the project.
