Chocolate making experiences

MAYAN MONKEY has been making chocolate dreams come true right in the heart of Mijas Pueblo since 2012.

The chocolate factory and museum are opposite the multi-storey car park and there is an ice-cream parlour with a shop overlooking Plaza de la Constitucion with now legendary ice-cream, unlike any other in the area, which has regulars travelling all the way from Marbella or Velez-Malaga to enjoy it.

Mayan Monkey Mijas is renowned for its unique chocolate-making experiences, suitable from age three upwards. The oldest workshop participant to date was a 93-year-old who came to celebrate her birthday! They are easy and great fun for any age!

Chocolate & Wine Pairing sessions are also available, with chocolate made from organic and ethically sourced cacao. Mayan Monkey is the only chocolate factory in Spain to be recognised by the NGO Slavefree Chocolate.

Their exquisite chocolate is sold in a number of gourmet shops across Spain, and, like their top-quality ice cream and coffee beans, can be brought right to your door through Greenlings, an organic fruit and vegetable basket home delivery company which supplies the fruit for Mayan Monkey’s ice-creams.

Don’t miss the Plum Compote and Cardamom Baked Pear varieties while the fruits are still in season!

Founders Eli McCarthy and Jason Godwin work with a small, dedicated team of long-term members who share the goal of “Finding Happy, Sharing Happy.”

A favourite with clients is the pistachio ice-cream, but all varieties are made from scratch, as are the sauces, caramels, biscuits, jams and nut butters. The ice-creams contain organic milk, cream and cane sugar, as well as seasonal organic fruits; pure, simple and natural ingredients combined to make the most exquisite ice-cream.

Mayan Monkey Mijas is also a palm-oil free environment! Green, sustainable, with zero waste values and an inclusive approach to all their products, meaning they are suitable for people with gluten and other food intolerances. And they make gorgeous birthday cakes too!

Open seven days a week and with Covid measures going beyond legal requirements to ensure the safety of staff and visitors, wait no longer to visit Mayan Monkey Mijas.
