The mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has highlighted the fundamental role that the hotel sector plays in the economic recovery and tourist reactivation of the municipality.

The mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has highlighted the fundamental role that the hotel sector plays in the economic recovery and tourist reactivation of the municipality. This has been transferred to the Association of Hotel Entrepreneurs of the Costa del Sol (Aehcos), represented by its executive vice president, Javier Hernández, the vice president in the Nerja-Frigiliana-Torrox area, José Damián Toboso and the General Manager Secretary, Antonio Aranda, along with a dozen owners and directors of hotel establishments in the municipality.
During the meeting, the health situation was analysed, as well as the evolution of municipal projects with a tourist impact. The commissioning of the Treatment Plant, which has made it possible to purify the waters that are discharged into the sea and to recover the Blue Flags on our beaches and the start of the urbanisation works of the plot for the new Health Centre and progress in the construction project of the sanitary building. Also, the development of tourist infrastructures, highlighting the projects of the Senda Litoral with the recent reopening of the first section of Paseo de los Carabineros and the transformation of Calahonda beach. The potential of Nerja’s natural heritage has been valued in order to increase the tourist offer that complements the sun and beach model.
Likewise, the tax reductions and measures promoted through the Municipal Shock Plan in the face of the coronavirus crisis have been highlighted, with the 50 per cent bonuses in the Economic Activities Tax for 2021, and in the Industrial Garbage and Occupation Rate of the Public roads that have been applied since last year, among others, that have meant significant savings for entrepreneurs in the sector.
José Alberto Armijo has reiterated the municipal commitment to work hand in hand with hotel businessmen when addressing the recovery and consolidation of our municipality as a national and international benchmark on the Eastern Costa del Sol. “The fact that Nerja has a wide and high-quality hotel offer contributes to us achieving this much-needed tourist leadership at this time”, he concluded.
