CALPE CAMPAIGN: Publicity in principal railway and underground stations Credit: Calpe town hall
CALPE town hall is repeating its national publicity campaign “Switch off in Calpe” on underground and railways stations. This year’s promotion centres on Madrid, Valencia and Murcia as well as cities in Castilla La Mancha whose residents habitually take their holidays in Calpe. This 2021 campaign began in May, coinciding with the Fitur tourist trade fair in Madrid which is normally held in February, explained Paco Avargues, Calpe’s Tourism councillor. It also comes at the same time as lifting the State of Alarm and ending the mobility restrictions between Spain’s different autonomous regions, he said, with the better weather tempting national tourists to book weekend getaways. Calpe had also wanted to get a step ahead of other holiday resorts, promoting local tourism and offering Calpe as a safe destination, Avargues added. The Desconectate en Calpe slogan was deliberately chosen to define the municipality as more than a “sun and sand” destination but also somewhere to escape the routine imposed by the pandemic and restore energy levels.
The Euro Weekly News is running a campaign to help reunite residents in Spain with family and friends by capping the cost of PCR tests for travel. Please help us to urge the UK government to cap the costs.
