Jon Snow To Step Down From Channel 4 News Anchor Role After 32 Years.
The Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow has announced he will step down after 32 years as anchor of the broadcaster’s flagship news programme.
Snow, 73, is the longest ever serving presenter in the show’s history and will leave the programme at the end of the year. He will continue to work with Channel 4 on longer-form broadcasting projects next year, and will “represent the channel in other matters”, while also focusing on charity work.
“After three incredible decades on Channel 4 News, it is time to move on,” he said. “I am excited by the many things I want to accomplish but I have to say I have enjoyed every minute of my time with the programme. I feel proud to have contributed to Channel 4 News, let alone to have anchored the programme for the last 32 years. I’m looking forward to new adventures and new challenges.”
Snow said: “After three incredible decades on Channel 4 News, it is time to move on.
“I am excited by the many things I want to accomplish but I have to say I have enjoyed every minute of my time with the programme.
“It has brought me adventure, as well as sorrow in some of the stories that I have had to report and also joy in reporting others, but, above all, it has brought me community in working with the most fantastic group of people who are bound in intellect, humour and understanding.
“Together, we have forged a wonderful service. I feel proud to have contributed to Channel 4 News, let alone to have anchored the programme for the last 32 years. I’m looking forward to new adventures and new challenges.”
Snow’s career in journalism began at LBC in 1973 before he moved to ITN in 1976, where he served as Washington correspondent and diplomatic editor.
He then became the main presenter of Channel 4 News in 1989. Snow will now “focus on his charities and some of his many passions in life, people’s stories, inequality, Africa, Iran and the arts”, Channel 4 said.

Ron actually started his working career as an Ophthalmic Technician- things changed when, during a band rehearsal, his amplifier blew up and he couldn’t get it fixed so he took a course at Birmingham University and ended up doing a degree course. He built up a chain of electronics stores and sold them as a franchise over 35 years ago. After five years touring the world Ron decided to move to Spain with his wife and son, a place they had visited over the years, and only bought the villa they live in because it has a guitar-shaped swimming pool!. Playing the guitar since the age of 7, he can often be seen, (and heard!) at beach bars and clubs along the length of the coast. He has always been interested in the news and constantly thrives to present his articles in an interesting and engaging way.
