The seat of democracy in Deia Credit: Deia Council

TO celebrate Municipality Day, the Deia Council reminded residents of the fact that it was 42 years ago that the nation saw the return to democracy after the Franco years.
Looking back over those 42 years the Council remembered the hard work that was put in by so many people though their activity in local politics to improve the lot of the town.
There have been 44 councillors from 8 different parties (UCD, PSOE, UM, Progressives for Deia, PP, DEIA Grouping, JuntsXDeia and El PI), of which 14 have been women and 30 men.
After declaring the names of all of those who have served the town, the Deia Council declared “We’ll keep going, because now more than ever we need to defend municipalism as a tool for social transformation at the service of people, democracy, social justice, environmental sustainability and culture.
“We will keep going because we believe in Deia.”
