A SIX-YEAR-OLD on his way to the Poeta Miguel Hernandez school in Rojales spotted a mobile phone lying on the ground.

Picking it up, he went up to a nearby Policia Local officer who was directing traffic and handed it over.

“I was rather surprised, but I took the phone and thanked him for what he had done,” the officer later told the local Spanish media. “It was the first time that something like that had ever happened to me,” he admitted.

Antonio Perez also had praise for the local lad’s “exemplary behaviour” and “admirable conduct” but added that somebody finding a telephone and handing it in should not be newsworthy.

“I’d like everyone to follow his good example,” Perez said,

Shortly afterwards, the telephone’s owner, used another phone to call his own, and was told by the police that it had been found.
