TAXI-DRIVERS, Roquetas town hall and the Policia Local have joined forces to eliminate illegal transport from the municipality.
Their awareness campaign – Mejor en taxi (Better by taxi) – reminding the public of the dangers involved in using the services of unlicensed drivers, has been prompted by the increase in “pirate” cabs in the town.
As well pointing out that a cheap ride could be expensive in the event of an accident, the campaign also sends out a clear message to the illegal drivers who face hefty fines and confiscation of their vehicles.
Roquetas mayor Gabriel Amat emphasised the importance of the Mejor en Taxi initiative:  “Taxi-drivers have been hit hard by the present situation,” he said.
“But they also reflect our municipality and projecting a good image to visitors is fundamental,” Amat added.
