The Motril mayor spoke about the athletics competition ahead of the Andalucia Championship. According to Motril council, the mayor, Luisa Maria Garcia Chamorro, said the tournament, will be held in Motril. Mayor Garcia spoke about athletics in Motril and praised the clubs which had helped to make the sport a feature of the town. She said they “have extended this love for athletics to the rest of the population, young and old.” Councillor of Sports, Daniel Ortega, said it “will be an event with the participation and 12 teams in all disciplines of track and field athletics.” The president of the Club Atletismo Ciudad de Motril, Jose Maria Hernandez, said: “For us this event means the start in Motril of our project, the Club de Atletismo Delsur, and our intention is to contribute to raising the participatory level of athletics in our town and continue to encourage local athletes.” Enrique Cuenca Lopez, president of the Andalucian Athletics Federation, said: £It will be a very interesting competition and in it a total of 20 tests will be held.” This championship is in the town for the second time with the 12 best Andalucian men’s and women’s clubs. Mr Cuenca said the federation, “expect a great championship that will lead to the U20 national championship.”
