SANT POLA’S public libraries received a €2,000 prize to spend on more books.

The cash came from the 20th edition of the Maria Moliner Reading Campaign, a competition that Santa Pola has entered on three occasions, winning an award each time with a project aimed at encouraging readers of all ages.

This year’s entry, Bibliotecas de Santa Pola 2020: Travesia por la pandemia (Santa Pola Libraries: A voyage through the pandemic), set out the strategies and juggling the libraries had to use to provide a service for readers, relying heavily on new technology and the social media.

The €2,000 was spent in Santa Pola bookshops, explained Culture councillor Trinidad Ortiz Gomez, consistent with the town hall’s policy of helping small local businesses.
