WATCH THE VIDEO: SPAIN’S La Liga films a trailer for El Clasico in Turkey

The top division of Spanish football, La Liga, filmed an impressive commercial ahead of the much-anticipated El Clasico clash between Barcelona and Madrid, it was confirmed in a statement on Thursday, April 8. In a trailer advertising the huge match, which will take place at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano in Madrid on Saturday, April 10, dozens of hot air balloons are seen flying above the Cappadocia region of Turkey, trailing the flags of both teams.

“El Clasico is the most storied rivalry in world football and LaLiga activations highlight the passion and intensity of this match. For this reason, during the days leading up to it, La Liga is organizing different actions at an international level to show how El Clasico reaches the whole world,” La Liga said in a statement.

Founded in 1929, the Campeonato Nacional de Liga de Primera División, more commonly known as La Liga, is the men’s top professional football division of the Spanish football league system. It consists of 20 teams, with the three lowest-scoring teams each year relegated to the Segunda División.

“Likewise, to symbolize the reach of La Liga in the world, it has installed 17 El Clasico flags in the most unpredictable places, with which to surprise football lovers in countries such as: Egypt, Israel, Morocco, Angola, Mauritius, Nicaragua, Indonesia, Brazil, Bolivia, Turkey, Malaysia, Ecuador, Japan, Thailand, Denmark, the United States and Canada,” it added, as reported by news outlet AA News.

In the video, the hot air balloons sail over Cappadocia’s iconic ‘fairy chimneys’, tall thin spires of rock that appear to majestically change colour depending on the position of the sun. Also known as hoodoos, people have actually carved houses into the fairy chimneys found in this region of Turkey, and their image was depicted on the reverse of the Turkish 50 new lira banknote of 2005–2009.
