CHRISSIE CREMORE from PAWS-PATAS recently described to Euro Weekly News readers the advantages – and joys – of adopting a rescue dog.
But adopting is a serious responsibility, pointed out Chrissie, who is on the committee of the Los Gallardos-based shelter and is also acting vice-president.
“It may be wise, if you have not had a cat or a dog before, to initially foster in order to understand what is required of your time and energy,” Chrissie said.
“PAWS-PATAS relies heavily on the generosity of people who are prepared to offer a temporary home.  This could be for several weeks or months until a ‘furever’ home is found.”
Many of the PAWS-PATAS animals have suffered and are not used to the care and affection they deserve, Chrissie explained.
“Fostering helps them to adjust to one-to-one association, allowing them to build up their confidence and get used to a normal lifestyle.  It is a pleasurable and rewarding experience and the charity provides bedding, food, medication and practical support.”
