BREAKING NEWS: Spain Announces Digital Vaccine Passports Will Be Ready By June

Spain Announces Digital Vaccine Passports Will Be Ready By June.

THE Spanish Minister for Tourism has announced that the eagerly awaited green vaccine passports will be ready by June. The announcement is being hailed as a major boost to Spain’s economic woes and is being welcomed by tourist industry chiefs.

Spain’s tourism minister, Reyes Maroto, said that the Spanish government’s forecast is that the vaccination certificate will be ready by June.

Following a meeting with President Armengol and tourism industry and union leaders, Maroto explained that the implementation of the certificate (or passport) still requires a process to verify that the holder meets safety requirements for travel.

“The forecast is for it to be operational in Spain by June. In order to put it into operation, it will be important to have a significant percentage of the population vaccinated – between 30 and 40 per cent and rising to 70 per cent in June. We need the maximum certainty in order to have a season without taking risks.”

The Balearic Islands had requested to be the first to test out the vaccination passport pilot scheme, however, Maroto insisted that this will not be necessary because the government is keen to see the scheme rolled out across the whole country.

The Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands are among the autonomous communities with the most urgent need to test this passport, given the amount of dependency tourism places in their economy.

Maroto said that the passport will look more like a mobility pass and will probably take the form of a QR code. Spanish Government To Trial Vaccine Passports In The Balearic And Canary Islands

The airline will ask those who have had two doses of a coronavirus vaccine to log their vaccination details with their BA app – they also said they would reintroduce free snacks and water for economy passengers.

So far I have heard nothing about getting even my first vaccination and I am 77. I believe Spain has only vaccinated 10% of the population so far so to cover 70% by June they have their work cut out by vaccinating 30% per month. With the way the EU as a whole has handled the pandemic so far I am doubtful this ambitious target will be achieved.

I’ve heard that the 70 to 80 age group has been “jumped” for some reason in the ongoing vaccination scheme. do you know if this is true, and why?
