Thousands Raised for War Hero Who Was Burgled While in Hospital Credit: JustGiving
THOUSANDS raised for war hero who was burgled while in hospital.
Over £20,000 has been raised for a 100-year-old Yorkshire man and war hero. Sadly, when Len Parry from Yorkshire was in hospital being treated for cancer his house was broken into and his safe was stolen.
Len had been at the Bradford Royal Infirmary on February 4 for a skin cancer operation. He came home to make the shocking discovery that his house had been broken into, and that his safe containing around £4000 had been taken.
The Former RAF flying boats pilot had saved up the £4000 to fix the roof on his home and buy birthday presents for his grandchildren. Although Len is independent and still does his own shopping he has been that shaken by the burglary that he has wondered if he should now move into a nursing home, reported the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The newspaper kindly set up a JustGiving page for Len and it has done tremendously well after Piers Morgan presenter of Good Morning Britain shared the page on his Twitter account.
Piers commented on Twitter that, ‘This is absolutely disgusting. What a shocking way to treat a great British hero.
‘Let’s get Len his money back. I’m in for £1,000, who’s with me?’
Len appeared on GMB and speaking about the fundraiser said it was ‘wonderful’ and added, ‘I very much appreciate all of this.’
