Step up
ALMUÑECAR and La Herradura Council together with the associations of merchants and hoteliers have agreed to step up the promotion of these sectors and proposals are being put together which include incentives to shop and eat locally, raffles, and a range of activities to support the hospitality sector.
Taxi driver
A PRIVATE taxi driver was caught red-handed about to take three people from the centre of Malaga to Cartegena on the Costa Blanca, completely disregarding the perimeter closures currently in place. Officers spotted the passengers loading suitcases into the back of the car and he was denounced for not having an appropriate licence.
Rural tourism
NERJA Council has begun the process of acquiring the Chíllar river hydroelectric plant and the attached houses from Endesa with a view to “developing an important cultural, tourist, sports and environmental project in the area”. The council wants to recover the popular area for rural tourism and hiking.
Zero positives
MASS screening in Almacher saw 193 people tested for Covid with zero positives. A total of 307 were randomly selected, with 62.9 per cent attending the screening. Almachar currently has a perimeter closure for having exceeded 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, one of six municipalities in Axarquía still above this level.
New vehicle
NERJA has invested €34,600 in a new vehicle for the Civil Protection team expected to be in action within the month. “This new vehicle will enhance the means and tools available to the volunteers of the Nerja Civil Protection group to guarantee safety and reinforce the service to neighbors and visitors,” said the council.
Tensions rise
TENSIONS have risen over a faulty lift at San Miguel public school in Almuñecar with the opposing socialist party accusing the council of failing to deal with a situation that has resulted in significant delays. In retaliation, the local authority said there was never any neglect and the matter is being dealt with.
