Europe’s most active marihuana trafficking gang busted

The Polish leaders of the gang were based in Estepona, Malaga

EUROPE’S most active marihuana trafficking organisation has been busted and 110 people arrested in an operation coordinated by Europol and Eurojust.

Searches have taken place in Spain and Poland with the seizure of more than a 1.5 tonnes of marihuana, more than 20,000 plants, 43 kilos of cocaine and 91 kilos of hashish.
In Spain, the operation, which began in September 2019, has been carried out by the Guardia Civil together with the Polish Special Division for Drug Trafficking and Organised Crime, allowing them to dismantle an organisation involving mafias in Poland, Bulgaria, Morocco and Spain and transported the drugs from Spain to several countries in Europe.
They first learned of Polish members of the organisation based on a luxury urbanization in Estepona, Malaga. Once under surveillance, they found they had ties to other organisations settling in Granada, which was the area where most of the marihuana was grown, although they also operated from houses and warehouses in Malaga, Cadiz and Valencia.
The drugs were transported in sophisticated hidden compartments in lorries, cars and even a bus and the drivers were carefully selected to drive to Poland.
Twenty-six cars, a bus, eight lorries, eight firearms, more than €500,000 in cash and assets worth €5 million have also been seized in the operation.
