JOE BIDEN Hints At No Trade Deal Unless The UK Rejoins The EU in new trade blow to Boris Johnson

New American President, Joe Biden, unlike his predecessor Donald Trump, is anti-Brexit and has always said that he will prefer to do trade deals with the EU bloc, as opposed to doing a special deal with the UK.

Now, it would appear that Boris Johnson’s dreams of drawing up a trade deal between the US and the UK will not come true, as the 78-year-old Biden has stated he doesn’t want to form any new trade deals with anybody until he has first secured domestic investent.

Ben Harris-Quinney, a former foreign policy adviser to the UK and EU, and the chairman of the independent Bow Group think-tank, told Express.co.uk, “We have a President who will consider the EU, not Britain, to be his closest ally, and ultimately will want Britain to rejoin the EU in the future”.

He continued, “Biden won’t agree to any deal that gives us a clear advantage over the deal the US has with the EU, or that makes it more likely other nations will want to leave the bloc in the future”.

He also described the UK’s failure since 2016 – when Brexit was initiated – to secure a trade deal with the US while Trump was in charge, as the “one of the greatest foreign policy catastrophes in recent British history”, adding, “President Trump was a more passionate believer in Brexit than Boris Johnson, he is also a committed Anglophile”.

Mr Harris-Quinney concluded, “We had four years to agree to a deal while he was President that would have given us a competitive advantage over the EU in our biggest global trade deal, which was one of the fundamental factors of Brexit being a success in the short to medium term”.

      The notion that that Biden would somehow “require” the UK to rejoin the EU before he’d approve any UK-US trade deal is the stuff of fantasy. For one thing, he’s way too busy with domestic crises to be paying attention to trade deals and, if he were to do so, I imagine it would be to join the TPP. He’s smart enough to know that making such demands on another country would be regarded as interference and even if the UK requested today to rejoin the EU, it would probably take a decade or more to convince the EU that the UK had mended its ways and would not be a disruptive force, by which time, Biden will be long gone .,…

        I agree. He will give us our deal in many, many months time, but he will never undercut the EU. Stability in Europe is what he wants. As for rejoin, even as a rejoiner I would baulk at that. The Single Market yes, freedom of movement yes, probably the Euro as well this time, but full membership? Full membership will be a pipe-dream for decades.

          This article is based on the misinformed conjectures and opinions of Harris-Quinney. It echoes the same rantings from Farage et al, who bemoan not reaching a trade agreement with Trump.

          The very premise of the argument is built on faulty logic. Such an agreement was never in the cards, and betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of the American constitution and system of government.

          Treaties need to be ratified by the US Congress. They’ve already said that they wouldn’t ratify any treaty if Brexit threatened the GFA. So Trump had zero chance of getting a US-UK treaty ratified prior to the final terms of Brexit were done, which didn’t happen until the eleventh hour and still hasn’t been approved by all EU member governments (only provisionally applied).

          There was never a realist window to get a US-UK treaty ratified, no matter what Trump blusters or how much Farage or Harris-Quinney wish to assume a holier-than-thou stance to castigate others for not getting it done during Trump’s term.

          The mirage of a missed opportunity for a US-UK deal is only being brought up now by Farage et al as a way to castigate others for not listening to them and getting it done while Trump was in office. Despite the fact that it could never have been done while Trump was in office, since Congress would never have ratified it.
